On my work PC, I can't view this image on IE 6.0.2800.1106xpsp2.050301-1526 after installing Adobe's SVG viewer. I do see that there is a box with a disabled scrollbar and I see the text. I have Firefox 1.07 also, which doesn't have a plug-in AFAIK. I don't want to update this browser until it comes out of Beta. Mozilla 1.7.8 shows text only. K-Meleon 0.9 shows text only. Netscape 4.7 shows nothing Netscape 8.0.4 shows text only. No plug-in. Mozilla 1.7.12 shows text only. Amaya 9.2.2 shows text only. It is supposed to be able to show SVG, but it doesn't like that image on your site. Opera 8.5 Success!! This is the only browser that actually shows the image for me. And it scales!! It will not work in Konqueror <3.4, Opera <8 or Firefox <1.5. IE 6 doesn't allow rescaling fonts but it does display the content correctly. Oh, I just ran into something where a small utility would help out. Basically I needed something that would be just like cp or mv, but would give the transfer rate of the file copy. Lot's of programs do this (scp, ftp, wget, etc...), but I don't think there is a way to have cp do it. checkinstall (mentioned in meeting)

For those who were interested in Check Install that I mentioned in the meeting, the URL is http://asic-linux.com.mx/~izto/checkinstall/. From the website which describes it better than I can: "CheckInstall will create a Slackware, RPM or Debian compatible package and install it with Slackware's installpkg, "rpm -i" or Debian's "dpkg -i" as appropriate, so you can view it's contents with pkgtool ("rpm -ql" for RPM users or "dpkg -l" for Debian) or remove it with removepkg ("rpm -e"|"dpkg -r")." http://www.opera.com/support/search/supsearch.dml?index=466 has the instructions to enable SVG on Opera. It looks like Opera uses the Adobe plug-in. I didn't have to do any of this to get it to work, but I installed Opera 8.5 after the SVG plug-in was installed.

I am currently looking for a genealogical interface (program) that is cross platform (ajax?). It would need to be quickly searchable with features like search ahead, etc. For example, if I were to type in my last name Grumpy, the web interface would begin searching the database at Gr, etc and narrow the list of names, etc. This program must be able to trace genealogy, tax records, juror records, etc. for a county history for the span of 60 + years. I am looking for a designer (back end) and (front end) for the genealogical society as well. I am also looking for a good program that would do foundation financing and all the legal and tax laws associated with it. This program would have to be more robust. All these programs must be open source, hosted at sourceforge or similar public accessible code depository with the possible exception of the web pages for the genealogical society itself. There are some good programs for windows, but I have not seen any for linux. There is currently no funding for these projects and there may never be, but it may have future possiblities. I am not getting any funding as well. The genology foundation is currently working on a volunteer basis only. I don't know if it is possible to get a tax write off as a buisness loss or contribution, but it might be something worth looking into. I am looking for development ideas and interested parties. I am also looking for previous work examples. We will be meeting in 2 weeks. I would like to see open discussion on the list development process, languages, etc. best suited for these type of projects. You may contact me privately if you wish. Dale

I didn't mean test pages on your site. I meant, do you know of any other website pages where a person could test their browser SVG functionality. It may be awhile before I get to that but I'll keep you posted.

Had to go here: http://www.adobe.com/svg/viewer/install/svgtest.html to activate the plug-in and accept the license. No big surprise. So their test SVG graphic works, but then I go to your site and still get no image, but this time I don't even get the scrollbar, just an image placeholder. Do you have any other test pages that I can go to? Netscape 4.7 AFAIK was the last Netscape browser that was approved for loading on Gov't PCs. We have it here at the USDA and I've seen it at IRS, KC City Gov't and Missouri Unemployment offices. It is actually no longer supported by the Helpdesk, but some transaction sites that government personell deal with, must at least be viewable by Netscape 4.7. Hum. That's very interesting. I just checked it on IE6 6.0.3xxx and it seems to be working; could you check the Adobe[1] web site and see if those work for you? IE will usually generate an empty box with a disabled scroll bar when it encounters an object tag that it doesn't have a plugin for. If it works at Adobe's site then I'll need to tweak my code. Nut or LanSafe3 with Compaq UPS (Deltec PRA1500)

I recently replaced the batteries in my Compaq UPS and got a serial cable working to hook up to my Compaq Proliant DL380. I tried using the LanSafe3 software from HP, but it's not "old enough" so then I moved to NUT that came with FC2. Has anyone used NUT much? Or does anyone have a similar UPS? Thanks, Jon Moss

Can anyone suggest a small application CLI or GUI that just seems to be "missing" from Linux? Not necessarily an application that exists in Windows, but not in Linux, but a program that would make some part of your Linux experience better. I am just dying to make a cool Linux app/project, but I am lacking ideas. For interface, I am considering console, GTK+ or Qt. For programming language, I am considering Python or C++; I appreciate your ideas. -- As a boy I jumped through Windows, as a man I play with Penguins.

Content filtering applicance

I am looking for an application to filter the content for a small school I have been working with. It looks like the best solution would be the appliance/software combination. I thought maybe someone might have some recommendations. I know that the budget is very limited. The school only has 25 to 30 computers at the present time and probably won't ever have more than 40 to 50. Thanks Denise
