OT: Needed SGI Parts

I recently inherited an SGI Indigo2, woo woo. Slight problem with it, though, that maybe some folks on the LUG list can help me with? I need a 13w3 video cable. I found a couple places online that sell them, but they start at $50 and that's just a tad too expensive for me. The company I got the machine from has a second Indigo I could pick up, but it is missing the CD-ROM drive and consequently the drive cage needed for the CD-ROM drive. And finally... these two machines haven't been used in years, and nobody at the company remembers the root login, and they no longer have the installation media. Does anyone have any idea where I could find a copy of IRIX 6.2 or 6.5? I'm not sure what else (IRIX-wise) would run on the R4400 processor in these things, heh. If all else fails I suppose I could put Linux on there, or BSD. So anyway, does anyone have some of these things that they would like to get rid of, or could point me to some place local that carries at least the video cable? Thanks, Rich

Chris Bier was looking for one recently for a Sun box. I can never remember the name of the stupid thing. I had to move some Sprint boxes that had adapters on them. For some reason the stinking adapters would get lost between desks and cause all kinds of chaos. Frankly though, I'm a bit disappointed in them. They use Linux, but never spent the time or money to make a toolbar for it. They are big enough and successful enough they could have hired it out to the community a while back, at the very least. Kind of made my think of those Peachtree people with their response, "not enough of a base to develop for". Oh yeah not enough to develop for but enough to use it to make gobs of money. But how do you rant about a company that is both good to Linux and bad to Linux? Have they done more good or more bad? Well, enough for ranting for today on this issue. Guess it's just a touchy subject for me. It's tough being an cynical idealist/dreamer realist.

Server Fundraiser

The KCLUG's server is in the process of losing its hard drive. Friday night, the faulty drive will be replaced. We are all lucky in that this was caught early enough, no data will be lost. To reduce our risk of next times failure, we would like to raise enough funds ($275) to purchase at least a 2 port 3ware controller, and a couple sata drives (>= 80's) for mirroring. Also, the server has 512mb's of ram. While this has been plenty, anyone with spare pc133 registered sdram, would not be turned down :) I'd like to do this sometime next month, hopefully giving anyone who can, enough time to budget some monies. I'll start by throwing in $50. Thanks, -Bill Cavalieri
