I received this via email today. This position is estimated to be approximately 5 months in duration with a possible extension of upwards of 18 months. Danielle BACKGROUND Security Engineer/Analyst. The primary responsibilities of the position will be to evaluate and implement security solutions and processes for an enterprise network and to contribute security expertise to ensure the successful implementation of the solutions. SCOPE Organize and research solutions for security projects. Coordinate communication and collaboration across organizational boundaries. Implement, configure and evaluate proposed vendor solutions in a test environment. Provide documentation for successful production implementation and configuration of solutions. Develop processes and documentation for monitoring and management of intrusion detection systems, security event correlation and wireless security. Provide subject matter expertise to the security team in the areas of Intrusion detection, Unix, Linux, Solaris, AIX and Event Correlation. Assist with resolution of Security vulnerabilities and process gaps as identified. Assist with migration of security tasks in the Unix and Wireless to the Information Security Team. Qualifications Requires a minimum of 3 years of technical security experience. Requires proficiency setting up and evaluating systems in a test environment. Requires proficiency with Unix operating systems Requires analytical skills for troubleshooting and resolving issues. Requires written and oral communication skills to effectively coordinate cross organizational projects and report results. Requires experience and proficiency with technical security solutions, firewall, IDS and Anti-virus. SCHEDULE Work hours not expected to exceed 40 hours per week. Primary hours within normal 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with flexibility as determined by project needs and approval of Information Security manager. DELIVERABLES Project Plan for evaluation of the following technologies Security Event Correlation Complete vendor comparison and testing on schedule. Documented test results and comparisons of solutions. Operational documentation detailing down to specific configuration parameters how the selected systems would be configured in a production environment. Project documentation including status reports as requested by Information Security manager. Fellow luggites, I have been working on an open source project for 18 months; I wanted to have a solid core in place before asking others for help. It is finally ready to invite other PHP developers to join in. The project is written in PHP, and it manages manufacturing Assemblies, Quotes, Invoices, Purchases, and so forth. Target audience is a small manufacturing business. http://www.brotherjonathan.org/ I am writing to invite you or someone you know to help work on this project. Here are some vital statistics: o Written in PHP o uses Smarty templates o uses the ADODB database abstraction layer o Themeable; there is only one theme so far o developed with a MySQL backend, but any major DB engine will work. o one module is already object-oriented; the others are classic procedural Although large in its own right, it is a very small competitor for the vast Compiere project which has been on Sourceforge's top 10 list for over a year now. About 500 proprietary products compete with it, also. It needs work in the accounting module, with testing, with documentation, and with the 200 bugfixes and tweaks that measure the distance between a 0.9 and 1.0. An intrepid volunteer who is willing to extract Assemblies from its location within Quotes might be useful, also. Also, does anyone have a PHP5 server that can be used to host a demo? IT training companies

I have a buddy who wants to get into IT from a Geography Major/City Planner background. He checked out Foss Training Center yesterday and asked if I knew about their reputation as a trainer. I don't, so I was hoping some of you do. Can you give me some feedback? He is looking at an eight month program to get certified in Java and Web Design/Development. Would he be better off at another training company or even going back to school and getting some type of IT associate's or bachelor's degree (in regards to what local managers are looking for)? Recommendations for CMS

I'm thinking of adding a CMS to my server. Anyone use any and which would you recommend. Or should not use a CMS? Pros? Cons? I'd like a CMS that would allow my to hand tweak, or one that doesn't do wierd stuff with the files. I'd like something that uses php. Also, looking for a simple easy to use calendering system. Smart multiline grep?

Is there a grep-like utility that will return a variable number of context lines? I need to search through source code for occurrences of a particular function and get back the function plus its arguments, even if they're split across multiple lines. E.g. if I search for "proto_tree_add_text" I want back proto_tree_add_text(subtree, tvb, curr_offset, 1, "%s : Reserved", bigbuf); and proto_tree_add_text(tree, tvb, offset, payload_len, "Payload"); equally. I _don't_ want the extra one-size-fits-all fluff returned by GNU grep's "-A" flag.

Recursive symbolic linking question

I have a bunch of oggs in a partition called autotunes that are organized into directories by artist and then subdirectories by album. I am using ogg123 to play the files. As best I can tell, ogg123 does not have the ability to recursively select files from a nested directory structure. I need to have a symbolic link for each ogg appear in the /autotunes directory. I can get a list of all the oggs by just using locate *.ogg. I can dump that to a file with a redirection, but how can I use that file to create the symbolic links automatically? I assume that I'm needing to write a script to accomplish this task. I'm not at all familiar with perl, so I would prefer to use bash if possible. Does anyone have any pointers? I am somewhat familiar with bash scripting, but I'm a bit rusty so I could use a bit of a quick refresher if anyone has any links or advice to offer. Please don't suggest that I switch media players or anything of that sort. This is a music player for my car that has limited disk space that I want to conserve for the storage of the music. some thoughts about SuSE 9.3 Pro

After having used it for six weeks, my opinion is mixed. It has nice features, especially the new KDE. The bad thing is that some applications will occasionally act squirrelly -- you try to do something and it just won't respond, or does something else than what you intended. Kword takes almost 30 seconds to load a file, which is grossly slow IMHO. Launching applications also takes a very long time. Maybe it is the limitations of my 500 MHz mobo and 256 MB ram. I think I'll be going back to 7.2, as it ran nice and smooth. Bells and whistles are nice if they work. Gary Hildebrand St. Joseph
