RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate will provide UNIX hardware and software support to multiple servers running HP-UX and Solaris. They will share responsibilities for backup and recovery via Veritas NetBackup as well as Ignite-UX support the SAN infrastructure, manage firmware upgrades and patching, monitor performance and make recommendations for hardware upgrades and replacements. As part of the Technical Services team they will be providing Oracle/Application support to all users and serve as part of our on call rotation for 24x7 support. Proficiency with MQ or MQ Broker is highly desirable. Experience with Oracle, WebLogic, BMC/Patrol, TelAlert, Java, C, C++, Server Express, Syncsort, Natural, PeopleSoft, CISplus, LPPLUS, or other UNIX software packages are all a plus. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS This position requires a Bachelors degree in an IT program or Bachelors degree and related IT experience and a minimum of two (2) years experience working with UNIX operating systems. Project TP position will require six (6) years experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Prefer HP-UX OS experience. SUN and Linux experience also helpful but not required. Proficiency with Veritas Netbackup, Ignite-UX, BMC/Patrol, Tripwire, TelAlert, MQ or MQ Broker is highly desirable. Experience with SAN management, firmware upgrades, patching, and performance tuning all preferred. nfs weirdness

my server nfs-exports / to certain peers. / is ext3fs. There is a mount point /bulky which is reiserfs. changes occuring on /bulky are not reflected in the nfs clients' views. nfs has been shut down and restarted with no effect. The clients see a picture of /bulky that is very out of date. Anyone know what might be happening?

Two 16+2 port switches

My basement switch failed yesterday, so I called Surplus Exchange. They said they had two 16 port 10/100 switches for $10 each, so I picked them up. What they turn out to be are 16 port 10M switches with a two-port 10/100 uplink module. Not what I need. Will pass them on for what I paid. NBase Mega Switch G Model NH218, with NH202-2MP Uplink module. Managed switch with SNMP. Management access through nine pin standard RS-232 serial port on front panel. 1U rackmount with ears, 120V(230V) power on back. Two fans, one unit is missing a fan. 16 10M ports, two 10/100 uplink ports, total 18 ports.

Pandora is a site for online music, but based on your specific selections, ratings and other recommendations they come up with a music genome. Not fixing a problem

I find myself in an interesting dilemma. I run logwatch the mail and web servers I manage. It used to give me some useful info, but these days, it has problems. It's catching every single 404 from the web server logs. On a site with ~40,000 pages, ~150,000 unique URL's, that's heavily crawled by robots on a daily basis, that makes for a pretty large report. Add to that the fact that it's also reporting every bounced spam, and it appears to be reporting all of the NNTP log entries as well, and any useful information is obliterated in a report that's well over a megabyte of text. So I tried to follow the instructions and turn off HTTPD reporting. Apparently, I got the syntax wrong, so now instead of the 1.4 meg report, all I get is an error message. Which is really just as useful. So why fix it? I know it's theoretically possible to configure and customize logwatch, but when I tried to find documentation on it, all I found were incredibly detailed and obtuse instructions for building your own custom log filters from the ground up. Not helpful. I'm posting this for your amusement at the dilemma, and in the vague hope that someone, somewhere, has written an intelligible guide to configuring logwatch on a very superficial level. Then again, maybe someone knows of a better tool.
