OT: Mac OSX, Squirrelmail question

We have a mail server for our students that allows them webmail access using Squirrelmail. Our student email addresses are in the form of student(a)students.kcai.edu. We have appropriate DNS records for mail to get to the server, but due to some network constraints, we had to create an additional DNS name for the webmail access. The off campus address for this access is squirrelmail.kcai.edu. When students log in from off campus and send mail through Squirrelmail, their messages appear to be coming from squirrelmail.kcai.edu. For example a message sent from off campus would appear as student(a)squirrelmail.kcai.edu instead of student(a)students.kcai.edu. In the Mail configuration under Server Manager on the OSX server, the server name is specified as students.kcai.edu. Why is the domain portion of their addresses getting rewritten to match the external DNS name that they used to access the Squirrelmail page? Shouldn't the server sent mail from it's configured hostname? If anyone has any advice, resources, tips, tricks or answers, I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. Rob

revisiting VPNs

what are folks thoughts on good VPN software with the following needs. Server runs on Linux, preferably both Lin/Win but at least LIN Server has solid win/lin clients opensource can auth against postgres, etc/passwd, ldap, mysql, text/flat files free what is the protocol of choice? L2TP? It would be CISCO VPN client worked with the specific server. thanks.

an opportunity in today's KC star

I find the idea of computer voting booths designed and implemented by closed-source companies to be distressing. Anyone for trying to put together an official statement of the LUG, which would be sent to the kcstar as a letter from the LUG -- agreeing with that sentiment, and offering to create or obtain a free and open source alternative to the computerized voting systems discussed in today's newspaper, made with common off-the-shelf hardware? I am pretty sure we could even undersell the money figures given in the article -- $1000 per voting booth for an attached printer? -- I really don't see why state-of-the-art hardware would be needed to run a touch-screen voting machine, or even what the advantage of touch-screen over keyboard might be. To select from the candidates on this screen press a number key on the keyboard. Did you select 32, "Chuck Steak" running in the Mauve party, for the position of director of parks department division of drinking fountain maintenance? press the "YES" button. I dunno about touch-screen technology -- the data comes in from the touch screen like mouse click coordinates, right? Aha -- http://www.openvotingconsortium.org/ exists. So we propose a petition in the form of an open letter to government that the OVC solution should be considered, and offer to, as an organization, integrate and maintain it. WoW on FC4?

Good morning, everyone! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. My son wants to play World of Warcraft, but I really don't want to install Windows just so he can play an RPG. I prefer text based RPGs but he insists on 3D virtual reality. Anyway, I did some searching this morning via Google and it appears you can install World of Warcraft through the latest Wine (which I have installed) and use OpenGL. Before I do this (and waste the license or authentication code or whatever proprietary licensing the makers of World of Warcraft use), I want to poll the local Linux community to see if anyone else had done this and ask for suggestions.
