Video processing

I have some .ts video files that are just under 7 gb in size. They're 1080p HD, and nothing I own appears to want to work with them. VLC and mplayer both seem to freeze on the first frame, avidemux reports it's unable to determine the aspect ratio after trying to index the file, and tovid's idvid returns /usr/bin/idvid: line 261: 16#Stream: value too great for base (error token is "16#Stream") This is on an Athalon 2500 running at 1.8 Ghz with 512 M of ram. What I'm wondering is if I don't have enough ram to handle files this big, or if a 32b processor/OS just isn't capable of it, or if the files themselves are corrupt. I have heard of people handling larger files with avidemux, so I know it's possible. Suggestions?

Just playing around with Face[1] support in Gnus, and was wondering if anyone else can see the image attached to this message? There are several clients that listed support in 2006, I'm wondering if any more have gotten it. I have soooooo much stuff stored in my many Y! accounts it's not even close to funny! I've had these accounts for YEARS and you know how stuff 'piles up'. I wonder how to go about starting an online 'petition' to Yahoo to "Just say NO! to M$". After all, "it's the _customer_ who is *supposed* to be right!" Tablets with real video cards?

I'm more an AMD man than an Intel man on the desktop, but I'm not willing to go that route on a laptop. That said, though, I am also highly unwilling to buy anything with an Intel/S3/VIA GPU as I may be stuck w/o my gaming rig in the near future. Can anyone recommend a tabletpc w/nvidia gpu & Intel proc that's actually available in US markets? I can't find anything at all, which seems just nuts to me. -Sean

Small Office Server

What hardware would you folk specify for a fileserver for a small office? It'll run samba and hylafax, a mailserver to handle the inbound faxes, and needs to be able to archive and back-up files. Several people have recommended Debian as the base OS. I'm interested in suggestions for hardware, base OS, backup hardware/software, and mail handling software.
