This is a huge win for Linux, but I always find these stories to be bittersweet. Anyone "in the know" is already aware that Linux is great for enterprise and server level applications, but I'd prefer to see a big win for the Linux desktop. Where is the "Corporation X Switches all Desktops to Linux" story I've been waiting to hear? There have been a few, but just not enough.

In the end, the LSE and its traders will profit from this move. As Steve George, director of corporate services at Canonical (the company behindUbuntu) told me when we talked about the deal. "When performance and stability matters, as they do in business, Linux is the positive choice. This move will be good both for the LSE and its customers and to the wider family of Linux."
I think this is the most interesting comment in the post. Does this imply that this new platform is running on Ubuntu or were they just looking for a Linux "talking head" to comment?
