what's the point of the "business card CD" that seems short-sighted to me, and inappropriately techie approach.

Doing all from a laptop. I can handle the photo and the user-friendly interface easily enough, but don't know where to start with the IR fingerprint scanner. Also, I'm not entirely sure an IR fingerprint is the way to go.
