I wanted to be at the meeting tonight. Who is bringing the CDs and will some of them be around before ITEC starts on October 25th?
Setup for ITEC begins at 8am Wednesday morning (October 25th). I'll be there unloading my demo system, "How you can revive older hardware to use Linux, even OpenOffice.org 2.0!" (PIII-600Mhz, 256MB RAM, 15GB/4GB/4GB hard drives, Debian "Etch"). I'll have to trot in a CRT as I have no other type of monitors, and it helps underline the "revive older technology" argument. I can bring along a surge strip and an extension cord or two.
Do they provide tables like last time? We should work out some way to display books vertically (one short level above the table level) to fit more items on the tables.
They seemed to have wireless Internet at one time in the Exhibitor Hall. I'm toying with getting a "wireless bridge" so I can use the demo system's existing wired Ethernet card to demonstrate network and Internet functions. The bridge I'm looking at is a four-port switch as well, so if we have up to four systems we can link them all together using the bridge/switch, even if there is no wireless Internet in the hall. Demonstrating VNC was popular last year.

I'm pretty sure setup is Tuesday. They don't provide tables. We'll need to bring our own.

You're right, you posted this ITEC schedule a few weeks ago:
Dates: Tuesday 10/24/2006 Exhibitor Move-In 9AM-6PM Wednesday 10/25/2006 Show Date 10AM-4PM Thursday 10/26/2006 Show Date 10AM-4PM Exhibitor Move-Out 3PM-7PM
I can bring my stuff and help arrange everything else on Tuesday afternoon. I'll already be in the neighborhood of the convention center around 2pm so I can be there shortly.
I still can't believe the differences between largely women's shows and largely men's shows. My wife does new age fairs with her fantasy portraits business and they usually go on for 9 or 10 hours a day (there is one this weekend which lasts 11-1/2 hours on Saturday), but these largely masculine tech shows go on for only six hours a day.

I can probably bring a 4' folding table which can support monitors and a system if necessary. I have a 6' folding camping table which cannot support much weight but which could support things like books, CDs and promotional materials. It is warped a bit in the middle, but a little white folded blanket under the tablecloth would make it appear flat for displaying the O'Reilly books.
Any ideas on tablecloths? Something thicker than a sheet, or two sheets together, might be the order of the day.

Right after I sent that, I got an email from ITEC saying we will have a 4' table, waste basket, and one chair.
Yes! Two 4' tables! Mine is adjustable height so it will reasonably match whatever the convention hall has to offer.
I brought a folding stool last year which I can bring again this year.

It isn't about being masculine...it is about business. Folks who go to a fantasy convention mean to be there for the duration. It is just as much social event as con. Folks who go to ITEC intend to find a good restaurant and a bar after the event. Why spend 12 hours listening to pitches when you can get fed *and* plastered on the company credit card?
Does anyone have tables to bring? How much space do we have to setup in?

I think its a 10x10 booth, as that is the smallest booth in an ITEC convention (according to the Exhibitor promotional material). I have a 4' table capable of supporting a couple of heavy things, such as the CRT I'm bringing.
We'll want some form of bright white tablecloths. I suppose it is too late in the day to get white tablecloths with silkscreened penguins on them. :(

If I could get ahold of iamspartacus, I'd hand paint us one like I did his...but thus far my email requests to drop by to see/trace the flag have gone unanswered. I've got a 15" LCD I intend to bring, trying to avoid dragging in my CRT's as they are 21".
