Nope, put I'm interested in using FOSS for this, keeping it simple and portable. I need to keep it small enough to backup to pen drive and easy (straightforward) enough that anyone else could pick it up and do it if I croak.
After I got the main spreadsheet done, I tried to do a database, but it is way overkill and too much work for same result. I was dragging sheets to Base to create tables and it was a royal PITA.
I have a workbook with 50 or so tabs (sheets). One for each boy and then a totals tab where I gather a running balance of all boys accounts for monthly reporting.
Pretty good for a guy that never had any accounting training. I took over and everything was on ledger paper accounting sheets and you had to manually calculate everything. While I haven't done much with Linux lately I have been doing a bunch with OO.o (openoffice.org).
In Jan, I took over the Treasurer position in our boy scout troop. I have created several spreadsheets in OO.o to track money and payments for various things. Then I cleaned up the main accounting spreadsheet, added notes and examples and posted it as a template for others to use on OO.o.
So, open source accounting for non-profit BSA troop.
