I've never used Photo booth, but I use kdetv to take photos from my webcam. It's really an application for watching TV from a TV card, but it works to read from a webcam as well. There are a few filters you can apply to make images look goofy, but probably not as many as you get with photo booth.

I discovered a program called "Cheese" in Kubuntu that worked perfectly on my new Acer with built-in webcam.

It's been a bit, but I've used Cheese before. It's ok, certainly better than nothing.
