Meeting Location Change

I'm so sorry. I don't know how to answer a particular post so I'm having to submit a new one. I think that moving the meeting spot should take into consideration more factors than just "BEER". Personally, I'm not interested in attending a "beer bash". I try to attend the LUG meetings in an attempt to LEARN...although I've been stifled by the lack of ownership of a suitable laptop at present. [Laptop = DIFFERENT SUBJECT ;) ] I like the idea of the North KC spot but it seems to be a bit small as sometimes more than 16 people show up. Parking is another consideration. The other suggestion mentioned where someone works. Exactly WHERE is this located in the metro area? As the Real Estate industry says, "Location, Location, Location" is what is important. LOL!!! Oxygen, webservices and Opensource

I have some questions for the list. Does anyone know anything about the folks at WSO (wso.org and .com)? Are these guys really opensource people or what? Are there any shops around town doing reasonable rates training in IT skills, especially related to OSS? Anyone doing any webservices in Linux using WSDL 2, DIME (obsolete), MTOM? And why does debian include php-net-dime but there isn't and equivalent php-net-mtom? For those people like me who hate all the @#$!!@ abbreviations used today. WSDL = Web Services Definition Language MTOM = SOAP Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism DIME = an abondoned MS supported standard which MTOM has superceded. Brian

ITEC: Missing CDs, general thoughts

We didn't have any Linux CDs yesterday, so we have been telling people to go to shipit.ubuntu.com. I just checked ShipIt this morning and the turnaround time for a free Ubuntu Linux CD is up to ten weeks, so anyone who came by our booth on Wednesday is in for a bit of a shock if they want to try out Linux. I'll see if I can find some paper sleeves and burn a dozen or two Ubuntu Linux CDs, but the official Ubuntu CDs we had last year would look a lot better. In general ITEC's new management is a mixed bag. They don't seem to have charged regular IT people for admission, not even to attend the conference lectures, but to compensate for this they have raised exhibitor booth rates. Even with free admission to everything, attendance wasn't as high as last year. OTOH, they did hand out free box lunches to everyone, exhibitors and attendees, including choice of soda or bottled water. They also didn't mind giving you a second box lunch if the first one wasn't quite enough. If word gets around about the free box lunches they hand out around noon, Thursday attendance may be a lot higher than Wednesday. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Concerns about ITEC: Exhibitor logins, badges, setup times?

I went browsing through last year's KCLUG list around this time of year, and according to last year's schedule we needed an actual Exhibitor's Badge to get on the floor before the show started. Setup was from 9am to 6pm Tuesday, which is today, and no setup times were listed for Wednesday. I can bring things in after 4pm today, but I'm a little concerned that I might not be able to get onto the exhibit floor to set them up. I see from the www.goitec.com website that there is on-site registration Wednesday and Thursday starting at 8am. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam?
